This is an original World War II soldier’s war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army. This symbol – the Rising Sun (centered) with Rays, was used from 1867 – 1945. It is made of lightweight silk – much like that used in handkerchiefs or scarves and has a loop sewn on two corners. I believe these were given to Japanese soldiers when they went to war. Many are signed. This one is NOT.
The flag measures 36 ¼” wide and 26 ¼” high and is machine hemmed on both long sides. The short sides are selvedge edges. There are 3 pin sized holes on each short edge – as if this was hung on a wall for display?
It is in excellent condition. There are some very small light spots on the red printed areas and a couple of minor red printing ink splashes are on the white. One small grayish smudge on a white area, barely noticeable.
Very nice WWII military collectible!
