The Lakeside Press - Lakeside Classics Books
Over 100 years ago, the R.R. Donnelley Co. began printing small runs of scarce or out of print books which were given annually as Christmas gifts to employees, vendors, and the like.
All books have been of an historical nature, but between the first year - 1903 and 1910, the books were reprints of books speeches and writings of historical figures. In 1911, the books began to focus on historical events, usually first person accounts of the authors. Through the 1980s the content was that of North American historical nature such as the western frontier, the American Civil War, and exploration. In the 1990s, the content began to include accounts written by Americans about foreign lands.
Each quarter century, Donnelley changes the color of the cloth cover of the books. Originally the covers were green, then changing to red, then to dark blue, then dark brown. In 2003, the 4th quarter century, the cloth covering was changed to turquoise.
These books were never sold new from the marketplace. All have been given as gifts by the company. We are fortunate to have several of these books that remain in their original plastic wrappers, never having been opened and may be viewed HERE.
